New Zealand Wanderer
Een 16- of 19-daagse rondreis door Nieuw-Zeeland waarbij u in comfortabele middenklasse hotels overnacht. Een rondreis met een goede prijs/kwaliteit verhouding waarbij u alle hoogtepunten van Nieuw-Zeeland zult ontdekken.

Na aankomst in Auckland heeft u gelegenheid om even bij te komen en de stad op eigen houtje te verkennen alvorens de reis begint. Bij de 19-daagse reis is een 3-daagse trip naar het noordelijk gelegen Bay of Islands inbegrepen. In Waipoua Kauri Forest Reserve ziet u de grootste Kauri boom; Tane Mahuta. Daarnaast bezoekt u het Waitangi Reserve, de plaats waar de eerste Europeanen een verdrag sloten met de Maori-bevolking. Uiteraard ontbreekt een boottocht door de Bay of Islands niet.
Onderweg naar Rotorua wordt er gestopt bij de Waitomo Caves voor een rondleiding. 's Avonds kunt u genieten van een Maori zang- en dansoptreden waarbij een traditionele Hangi maaltijd wordt gereserveerd. In het Te Puia Thermal Reserve kunt u kennismaken met de bijzondere geothermische natuurverschijnselen van deze streek zoals de geisers en kokende modderpoelen met hun doordringende zwavelgeur.
Op doorreis naar Wellington ziet u Huka Falls en Lake Taupo en overnacht u in Napier, een stadje gebouwd in Art Deco stijl. Bij aankomst in Wellington, de hoofdstad van Nieuw-Zeeland, wordt er een korte stadsrondrit gemaakt.
Na het bezoek aan het nationale museum Te Papa staat de overtocht naar het Zuidereiland op het programma met als hoogtepunt de tocht door de Marlborough Sounds van het Zuidereiland.
Vanuit Christchurch gaat de oversteek naar de westkust met de TranzAlpine door het indrukwekkende en magnifieke natuurschoon van de Southern Alps. De westkust van het Zuidereiland is ruig, zo zult u heir de gletsjers bij Franz Josef Glacier en Fox Glacier zien, gevolgd door het dichtbegroeide regenwoud van Westland National Park.
Via Haast Pass en Lake Wanaka gaat de reis verder naar Queenstown, een populair skioord gelegen aan de voet van de Remarkables en de oevers van Lake Wakatipu. De vrije dag kunt u naar eigen inzicht en interesse invullen. De rit van Queenstown via Milford Road naar Milford Sound is adembenemend mooi. U stapt aan boord van de Milford Mariner voor een cruise door de fjord en overnachting. Liefhebbers kunnen een kajaktocht maken.
Vanuit Queenstown gaat de reis verder naar Dunedin, een stad met een zichtbaar Schots verleden waarvan u tijdens het avondeten een stukje kunt proeven. U brengt een bezoek aan Larnach Castle, het enige kasteel van Nieuw-Zeeland. Via Lake Ohau, Mt. Cook en Lake Tekapo reist u naar Christchurch, eindbestemming van deze boeiende reis.

Day 1. Arrive Auckland.
You will be met and transferred to your centrally located hotel. Enjoy the rest of today at leisure in Auckland, the City of Sails.
Stay: Auckland, Hotel Ibis.
Day 2. Auckland, Bay of Islands.
We visit the Matakohe Pioneer Museum, home to the world's largest collection of kauri gum. Continue to the Waipoua Kauri Forest Reserve where we view the giant kauri tree Tane Mahuta. Travel to the Bay of Islands National Maritime Park for a guided visit of the Waitangi Reserve.

Day 3. Bay of Islands at Leisure.
Enjoy a day at leisure in the Bay of Islands. Not only is the Bay of Islands the birthplace of the Nation and thus full of New Zealand history, it is also home to 144 islands. Today is at leisure for you to explore the array of activities available (own expense).

Day 4. Bay of Islands, Auckland.
What better way to explore New Zealand's finest National Maritime Park than on a catamaran cruise to Cape Brett and the famous 'Hole in the Rock'. Sail through game fishing waters to view the Cape Brett lighthouse then make passage through the 'Hole' (sea conditions permitting). Return this afternoon to the cosmopolitan city of Auckland.

Day 5. Auckland, Waitomo, Rotorua, Hangi (Feast).
Leaving the City of Sails we travel south through the Waikato Province to Waitomo Caves. Here we experience a guided tour of the underground limestone caverns, lit by thousands of tiny glow worms. This afternoon arrive in Rotorua. Tonight immerse yourself in a Maori Hangi (feast) and cultural performance of traditional dance accompanied by beautiful song.

Day 6. Explore Rotorua.
Today experience the attractions of Rotorua. We visit Te Puia Thermal Reserve, enjoy a guided tour through the Maori Arts and Crafts Institute and continue to the Agrodome. The remainder of today is at your leisure.

Day 7. Rotorua, Taupo, Napier.
Depart Rotorua this morning and travel via Wairakei Park and the mighty Huka Falls then onto Lake Taupo. Continue to Napier, and enjoy a tour of one of the region's most established wineries, Church Road. Explore with a city sights tour before a guided Art Deco walk.

Day 8. Napier, Wellington.
Depart Napier and travel south via Hastings and cross to the West Coast of the North Island. Follow the Kapiti Coast to Wellington. This afternoon enjoy a brief city sightseeing tour, including Parliament Buildings.

Day 9. Wellington, Picton.
This morning enjoy a visit to Te Papa – the 'National Museum of New Zealand'. This afternoon we join our cruise for the journey across Cook Strait to the South Island. Sail through scenic Wellington Harbour, across Cook Strait and through the breathtaking natural beauty of Marlborough and Queen Charlotte sounds to the sunny seaside port of Picton.

Day 10. Picton, Christchurch.
Today is a spectacular scenic journey between mountain and sea. Journey between the Pacific Ocean and rugged Kaikoura Ranges to Christchurch. On arrival we enjoy a city sightseeing tour then the afternoon is at your leisure to explore.

Day 11. TranzAlpine Train, Greymouth.
This morning board the award-winning TranzAlpine Train. Cross the vast patchwork farmlands of the Canterbury Plains before climbing up into the Main Divide. Enjoy stunning scenery as we journey through spectacular gorges, river valleys and across the magnificent Southern Alps. Finish this amazing rail journey at Greymouth, situated on the West Coast.

Day 12. Greymouth, Franz Josef, Haast.
This morning journey to Hokitika, and continue along the dramatic coastline through dense rainforest to World Heritage Westland National Park. Enjoy the grand scenery as we travel along the West Coast, through a world of mountains and glaciers.

Day 13. Haast, Queenstown, Walter Peak Dinner.
Cross the snow-capped Southern Alps and travel through Haast Pass. Trace the beautiful shorelines of lakes Wanaka and Hawea to the action-packed alpine resort of Queenstown, on the banks of Lake Wakatipu. This evening, enjoy a cruise across Lake Wakatipu on the TSS Earnslaw to Walter Peak Sheep Station to enjoy a candlelit dinner at the Colonel's homestead.

Day 15. Queenstown, Milford Sound Overnight.
Today we follow the Remarkables Mountain Range to Fiordland National Park. Journey along the Milford Road, renowned as one of the world's finest alpine drives to Milford Sound. We board the Milford Mariner and cruise the full length of this beautiful fiord. View the cascading waterfalls, sheer cliffs, dense rainforest and towering mountains of this World Heritage-listed area. After reaching the open sea return and anchor for the night in sheltered Harrison's Cove. You may like to venture out in the Mariner's kayaks.

Day 16. Milford Sound, Dunedin, Scottish Evening.
Depart Milford Sound and travel to Dunedin. Tonight enjoy dinner with a Scottish evening complete with bagpipes, kilts and haggis at your hotel.

This morning we enjoy a city sightseeing tour of Dunedin before visiting Larnach Castle, New Zealand's only castle. The remainder of today is at leisure in Dunedin, the ‘Edinburgh of the South’.

Day 18. Dunedin, Olveston House, Lake Ohau, High Country Hospitality Dinner.
Visit Olveston House with its extensive collection of antiques and New Zealand paintings. Travel north along the coast to view the unique and fascinating Moeraki Beach boulders. Stop at Oamaru, a town renowned for its distinctive limestone architecture. Pass massive hydro-electric dams and glacier-fed lakes of incredible colour on our journey to the pretty settlement of Lake Ohau. This evening enjoy a High Country Hospitality Dinner.

Day 19. Lake Ohau, Mt Cook, Christchurch.
This morning view Mt Cook, New Zealand's highest mountain. Continue to beautiful Lake Tekapo and visit the picturesque tiny stone Church of the Good Shepherd. Travel the vast Canterbury Plains to Christchurch. Your tour concludes on arrival and a departure transfer to the airport is included.
